About who needs care: Time frame: As of Monday 1/13/25 we need ALL listed duties below. As of 1/27/25 to perhaps as late as mid to end of February, we should be getting help from the VA (Veteran's Administration) and some of these hours will be covered. We have no idea when the VA will start or how many hours the VA will cover. Even after the VA starts, we will most likely still need some of the hours from you listed below. Coverage: Patient, my very beloved and dear husband, a veteran, Jim , is 97 and has limited mobility (wheelchair, perhaps walker). He is on hospice care, although no single definitive health issue is suspected as a reason for end of life. He is on 2L of oxygen/day, has a pace maker, has prostate cancer that is slow growing(?), and has very limited circulation in his feet, which have no external feeling. He was recently operated on for ischemic rest pain (IRP; for the feet) and is returning home after 3 weeks in hospital/rehab including PT. He has been stable but with no real improvement. Mainly he is not eating well and has little to no energy. Liquids are nectar only as he has trouble swallowing. We are uncertain as to how long he will live, estimated 4 months to ...maybe a year? My grandson will continue PT for as long as Jim is able, just to add some activity. I will be the main care giver and have a definite need for help from noon to around 4pm on Wednesdays and Saturdays when I play bridge. Plus weekly: one 2-3 hr time frame to run errands (can work wiith your schedule) and one optional 2-4 hr time frame for my own mental health (either can meet your schedule or at other times as needed). Until he is here for awhile I am uncertain as to what other times I will need, but there are sure to be some. He is both spiritual and intellectual, loves to have indepth conversations (when capable) particularly about spiritual things, and loves all things related to airplanes. He was in the marines. He has been a voracious reader on all subjects. Before the IRP operation his mental state was good and now it is hard to say due to medicines, which may not be continuing, so he is sometime sharp, sometimes not. His favorite activity is watching sunsets, either from our back porch (summer) or from a heated car (when it's cold) at a place that is about 3 miles away. If you are here during this time it would be wonderful for you to take him either to the porch or drive him to his "sunset spot" in the car; you would be able to drive our car. Hospice will take care of meds, bathing, wound care (on feet). I will need help while you are here with feeding (depending on times you are here), personal care as needed, and companionshp. There is an expectaton of keeping things in the room clean and orderly using light housekeeping. About the care needs: Someone who is friendly and sociable for sure. A person who is either spiritual or religious and/or enjoys intellectual pursuits would be wonderful, but not required. Airplanes and flying are two of his other passions. Services needed include: mobility assistance.
