About who needs care: Mom has a T4 and T6 fractures which I just need her to stop bending, lifting, twisting, pushing and pulling for 12 weeks. She has dementia with a type A personality. Her favorite thing to say is "I've always been able to...." She can no longer drive or figure out her meds. She needs food cooked for her. She can use the restroom and shower on her own. Financial and shopping are handled by her children and household chores are handled mostly by her husband. She is stubborn and the anosognosia is strong. She still goes to church and small outings (not driving) until her back starts hurting. Her daughter (me) takes care of her 6 days a week 9 hours a day but it is becoming too much since I have health problems of my own and very inexperienced at care taking. Looking at options. About the care needs: Don't know about personality fit, kind and good at dealing with stubborn dementia patients. Skills, basic cook, can get her to take her pills, keep her from doing too much. Her hobbies are genealogy and quilting both of which have been too difficult to do since the dementia got worse. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, and light housekeeping.
