About who needs care: My Gran has had quickly deteriorating mental and physical status since January. She does not have an official medical diagnosis, but it is a kind of dementia, likely Alzheimer's given family history. She lives with her granddaughter and her 3-year-old great-grandson, and they are her pride and joy, but her granddaughter needs a break in order to go to work and in order to get adequate sleep. Gran was a librarian for many years and loved reading, although she does not do much of this anymore. She also used to love watching Dallas Mavericks games. In her younger days, she and her late husband would race motorcycles in enduro-style races! Her most recent vacation was to Iceland with her daughter and two granddaughters, about 8 years ago. She does not love being told what to do so a gentle hand that is flexible/willing to "go with the flow" would be most beneficial to her. About the care needs: Someone who is willing to let Gran take the lead or at least feel like she is taking the lead. She digs her heels in if she is told what to do in a way that takes away any choice in the matter. A plus would be someone who has experience working with someone who has dementia. Services needed include: feeding, and bathing / dressing.
