About who needs care: My mother had a stroke 5 years ago. Since then the left side is disabled (spasticity in medical terms or paralyzed in my words). My 79-year-old father has been taking care of her, while also running his business. He needs some relief. My mother has 100% cognitive ability and is very smart. The stroke did not affect cognitive ability. I tried care. com once before with my mother, and the person we selected could not follow some simple interview requirements or rules (we do not have a set of diffucult rules or recommendations. One example is not bringing care givers family members to my parents home, treat with respect, too loud tone, cultural differences were too great). Obviously it is hard to find a good match. So many small things make the difference. I do have experience finding a great match for a different person, my best friend, who has been paying a personal care assistant for 6 years now. Ideally, we would find someone that does not dominate the relationship, is okay with occasional recommendations. My parents are not demanding people. They are kind and courteous. And the can detect authenticity very well. We know there are good people that want to help in the Odessa-Midland area. Hoping to find that person or persons soon About the care needs: Not loud or over whelming Has energy but knows how to adjust it to the daily vibe It would be ideal if the person knows hows something about patient handling. Why? To occasionally help my mother into her wheel chair, and transfer her from wheel chair to a couch or recliner. Honesty, truthfulness, and integrity are very important. Services needed include: feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
