About who needs care: He has been a quadriplegic for 50 years but after his accident was able to go to college, learned to drive and worked full-time. He has been married 35 years to a woman whose sister was a quad also and she has always provided his care. His care has recently become slightly more complicated and his desire is for his wife to be relieved of all of his personal care. His wife is very hard of hearing and her primary language is Spanish. The clients first language is English but he is bilingual. A bilingual provider who can also provide assistance with transportation to physician appointments would be preferred. About the care needs: Knowledge/experience with care of quadriplegics would be preferred but not essential. Fun personality preferred. While there is only the client and his wife in the home they do have a large family and frequently have many friends and family to the house. Would need organizational skills for managing patients bowel regimen, bathing, dressing, assisting with feeding (currently requires G tube feeds but that is not expected to be permanent), administering nebulizer medications, some oral meds (currently given by crushing and putting into the g-tube), hooking up nighttime bi-pap, transporting to appointments and interacting with doctors. Patient is able to drive a motorized wheelchair and will soon have a Sure Hands Hoyer system for transfers. Services needed include: transportation, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
