About who needs care: My Dad had a stroke last year and during rehab fell and broke his hip so then had to rehab from that as well as continue to rehab from the stroke. He is now mostly using a walker around the house but can be a bit unsteady. He mostly sits in his recliner and watches TV with times to do some exercises or just a lap or two around the kitchen/living room area. He will play card games and Farkle but needs help seeing even the large dice and large print cards since he has macular degeneration. My mom has been caring for him 24/7 since his release from the hospital last summer and my sister and I are looking for a service that will give mom some time a couple times per week when she can go do things she wants to do and needs to do to keep herself healthy. She used to do Thai Chi, etc., but is now experiencing arthritis pain and other issues because of lack of good sleep and lack of self-care for going on a year now. Preferable we would like to find a service that is covered by Medicare that can do this but I don't know what is available and so we are beginning our search. Thank you for your time. About the care needs: Someone that can motivate Dad to do his exercises and has a good sense of humor. They would need experience will people who can be unsteady on a walker or cane Someone who has experience helping a man in the bathroom when necessary (He's pretty much ok on his own in this so it's not a regular thing). Services needed include: companionship, and mobility assistance.
