About who needs care: My father is an alert, funny, friendly, 93-year-old with mobility issues. He can move around the house with a walker or wheelchair independently, but he needs daily help rising from his bed, showering and dressing, assembling his breakfast. Making his bed and washing linens, if necessary, is also required; he sometimes has night-time incontinence. He is kind and talkative and interested in the world at large--reads and watches sports (his passion). He lives with my mother, 83, who has early-stage cognitive impairment. She is not physically impaired, is sweet and shy, and may also need some supervision and occasional assistance in the morning. About the care needs: Caregiver should be able, physically, to assist with showering and dressing. Caregiver should be flexible and encouraging, as my father makes efforts to retain his independence and stay at home with my mother, whom he loves dearly. Ideally, caregiver will have some experience with dementia patients, as our mother is in the early stages of the disease. She is physically independent, but emotionally and mentally dependent on our father and her sister, who lives next door. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
