About who needs care: Jerald is 84 yrs old. Although he has not been diagnosed with dementia, his short term memory is awful. He used to walk with a walker, but is too weak for that now. He is bedfast all day until about three in the afternoon when our son in law returns from work and can get him into a wheelchair while I change his bed and start supper. Right now he can neither walk nor talk above a whisper. He is an artist who has achieved a fair amount of fame, both overseas and in the states. He takes no joy in art now. He was very interested in international politics, but now, no. About the care needs: I want someone strong enuff to get him out of bed. I want the caregiver to put him at the walker, grab his gait belt and try to get him to walk a few steps. A good goal would be for him to be able to sit down on the toilet. Right now he is incontinent. We speak fluent Spanish if you have a caregiver that speaks Spanish. Of course, we also speak English! Services needed include: feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
