About who needs care: My mom is 82. In 2020 she had 2 massive strokes 3 days apart. Her right side was paralyzed. However, her arm came back but her leg didnt. So she cant walk and she has very shaky balance because that knee tries to buckle with her weight. She does have a walker that with assistance she was able to go from her recliner into the kitchen and back again. It also affected her brain along with now having Alzheimers dementia. She gets confused a lot. Recently, she got adamant that she could stand by herself and walk on her own. She tried to stand before her live in caregiver/boyfriend could get to her and fell/landed on that leg. Then 3 days later she did it again landing in the same leg. She was admitted to genesis and has a fractured tibia. They said due to her age, health conditions and a fib, also the fact that she doesn't walk like the rest of us do, that she wasn't a good candidate for surgery. So they put a boot on it instead. The physical therapist starts coming to her house tomorrow. Also, her boyfriend just got discharged himself this past Saturday. My sister lives and works in Columbus and I live up by Cambridge. We have been going back and forth to moms to care for her and take turns taking her to her appts. Her boyfriends adult son also lives with them and helps out some. About the care needs: My mom has cats that are like her babies. So someone who likes cats. Preferably someone who has dealt with patients and/or family members with dementia and confusion. She loves to talk to people and misses socializing. Before the strokes she was active in her church. When shes sitting on her glider on her porch she talks to the neighbors walking to get their mail from the mailboxes.
