About the job

About who needs care: What should we know about them? My mom is currently on hospice with a terminal illness that affects her body. Her mind is mostly there, though she does have some confusion on certain days. She lives with me (her daughter), my husband, and our two young children in our home. She has her own private space in our finished walkout basement, which is where all of her care takes place. You will not be expected to care for the rest of the house, although occasionally I may need to step out briefly to transport one of the kids and would appreciate someone who is comfortable with thator we can discuss your preferences and boundaries. She enjoys watching TV, looking through old photos, playing games on her iPad, and she loves to eat. She also likes to sit outside on nice days, and sometimes we take her for a walk around the neighborhood in her wheelchair. She needs assistance with transfers (to/from bed, bathroom, and wheelchair) and support during her morning routine. She is incontinent and needs help getting from the toilet to the shower, and occasionally with hair washing. After that, she prefers to do most of her routine independently. Shell clap when shes ready to move on. Then youll help her back to the toilet, where she dries off and gets dressed. After that, shell transfer to her chair, brush her teeth at the sink, and begin her day. Well need someone to make sure she gets her breakfast and takes the meds Ive laid out. If her bedding is soiled, it should be laundered. Additional light laundry and tidying may be needed during the day. Hours: Were looking for help on Tuesdays from 9am5pm and Sundays from 8am3pm, so I can spend focused time with my children and run any needed errands. Hours may be flexible if we communicate in advance. We are a warm, busy, faith-centered family who values compassion, communication, and trust. If youre someone who truly cares and wants to make a difference in the final chapter of someones life, we would love to talk more About the care needs: We are looking for someone who is kind, patient, dependable, and emotionally mature. This role is personal and vulnerable, so we need someone who respects our home and treats my mom with dignity even on her hard for her days. She is not violent or degrading, just predictably sad. Experience with mobility challenges, hospice care, or neurological conditions is a huge plus.. We want someone who understands how to be gently supportive while still allowing my mom to maintain as much independence as possible. A good fit would be someone who is intuitive who can sense when to chat and when to give quiet space. Someone who is okay with a little unpredictability, has a steady presence, and can remain calm if things shift quickly. We are a faith-based family, though no specific belief is required. If you enjoy chatting, sharing memories, or simply sitting outside with someone, you'll likely connect well with my mom. Reliability and communication are very important to us. If you say you'll be here, we trust you'll follow through or give plenty of notice if something changes. We really value a team mentality and open, honest conversation. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
