About who needs care: My mother has been caring for my father and she is exhausted. My father has very limited mobility, and is declining mentally as well. He has severe arthritis in the spine, which has led to one spinal surgery in 2021, and he fell and broke his neck in 2022. He has pins in several places in his neck. He has a hard time using his hands as well, or negotiating personal care. He also is diabetic and has hypertension. He has fallen several times- he uses a walker- so far, so major injuries since 2022. He is a very proud and private person, so he has been difficult with other in-home help my mother has hired. He's becoming more and more senile, so some days he can behave very poorly. He was a workaholic when he was young, so now he 'works' from his armchair, but he doesn't really do anything. An ideal day would be for someone to come and give my mother a break- help bathe and groom him, prepare a simple lunch for him and perhaps take him to appointments and the like. About the care needs: Whoever works with my father (and mother) should have a thick skin and pleasant personality. Both my parents are kind people, but they both have a somewhat brusque personality. As my father as aged, he can behave like an angry toddler at times, and at other times be very sweet. This person should understand that my parents are very proud and private, which is why it's been difficult for them to move forward with obtaining in-home care. Unfortunately, my father doesn't have many hobbies, but enjoying football as a topic of conversation may help! Services needed include: transportation, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
