About who needs care: Holocaust survivor from Hungary, very intelligent and has strong opinions about her care ie what she needs, and wants to fully participate. Returning from 2 wks in rehab after hospitalization for a vertebrae fracture that is in process of healing, has lower back pain from the fracture when not lying down, is working on being mobile again with assistance from a back brace and helpers. We are working with Jewish Family Service Assoc. locally on bringing help in through their Holocaust Survivor Caring at Home program, but expect she may need help beyond what they can provide. They will have PT and OT coming 2x/wk., and a nurse overseeing. She is an artist, loves fine art, museums, etc., loves to tell stories about her life, and has a keen sense of humor. Mobility has been a challenge in recent years due to arthritis/osteoporosis; she spends time watching news (very interested in politics, US government, etc.) About the care needs: Someone who is self-confident, outgoing, conversational as well as a good listener, and has interests and stories of their own to share. Someone who enjoys plants and art, and/or who understands the refugee/immigrant experience. Someone who can treat her with dignity and take in stride her directions about how she wants her care to be. Some examples might be: specific foods she likes to combine together and puree (she has a pureed diet); arranging the back support she needs to be able to sit up and eat; helping her keep her phone charged so she can make and take calls; helping her to transfer gently without added pain to her back; and giving bed baths and washing her hair. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
