About who needs care: She's got Parkinson's and chronic pain and needs help getting up and ready for the day. She uses a walker and is cognitively very sharp. She's a former American history teacher and bookkeeper, speaks several languages in addition to English -- was born in Lithuania and lived in a Displaced Person camp in Germany as a teen after World War 2 before coming to America. Even a few mornings a week would be a great start; might want to consider evening prep but mornings are the priority. She's awake around 6 a-m with meds to take, so pushing the start time to 6:30 is the latest desirable and this has been the obstacle with agencies -- they tend to offer caregivers mid-afternoon. She has adult children and grandkids in the area but she resists this kind of care from them, and their work schedules make early mornings difficult anyway. About the care needs: An optimistic, positive person who could help her feel safe bathing and dressing. My mother has lost vision in one eye (she's got macular degeneration AND glaucoma) so not being able to read has been a great loss. But she loves classical music and someone who might want to hear stories of her amazing life and journey to America, settling in and maintaining her Lithuanian identity here, etc. She was an amazing seamstress and an adventurous cook, traveled a lot with my dad when he was alive. Services needed include: companionship, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
