About who needs care: I am a healthy 97-year-old. No underlying conditions. I get around with a walker and a cane. I depend on both. I have to be careful to avoid falls. I am less stable that previously and more fragile. Need help bathing, sometimes mean preparation. I am a writer; business exec. Interests: Books; classical music; opera; dance. I am mostly homebound, but enjoy walks (always with companion). My day: Arise between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. Breakfast. Exercise. NY Times + other reading. Write in home office. Politics a main interest (a liberal Democrat). Work on business papers and correspondence. Lunch betw. 12:30 and 1:30. Have occasional visit from 62yr old daughter; 61yr old son; or friend. Often watch NY Mets when on TV; also big tennis fan. Dinner around 7:30 or 8 p.m. Watch TV evenings, or read a book. About the care needs: I am a gay man who was married to a woman (the mother of my children) for 24 years, then more recently married to a man for 24 years. I have lived alone since he died almost 4 years ago. I very much prefer a caregiver who is interested in life, history, and the world. The arts and literature (e. g., a retired teacher could be ideal. Minor meal prep and/or cooking; often just heating prepared meals). Good sense of humor. Friendly, interested in people and politics. Help with exercise. Accompany me on walks, Occasional museum visit, rare doctor visit. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, and light housekeeping.
