About who needs care: I need wheelchair transportation for non-medical appointments About the care needs: I was wondering if you knew of someone who could provide wheelchair (large electric) transportation to non-medical appointments. It would require a wheelchair van. Providers of medical transportation charge well over $100 for a 60 mile or less, round trip ride which I cannot afford. I also cannot afford to purchase a wheelchair van at $50, 000 for a well used one (close to 100, 000 miles). If this kind of service does not exist, it might be a service that someone could provide in Orange County NY. Transportation for wheelchair bound people is very limited to basically "dial a bus" which does not cover many areas in Orange County and I am sure there are many people who could use it. We would like to go to a lot of the same places that a lot of people go to like church, the community center, the movies..., but it is totally unaffordable. I would gladly pay $20-$25 to get to the movies or a local concert once in a while. Being such a highly populated area without affordable transportation for the handicapped is not acceptable. If I could afford it, I would try to establish this type of opportunity for the many people it would benefit. I know it would give the homebound, not just wheelchair bound, but other people who cannot leave the house without assistance, a quality of life that they could only dream of. Services needed include: transportation.
