About who needs care: My dad has Parkinson's, so his communication and movement are extremely limited. He is wheelchair bound. He is often stubborn and tries to get up when his doctor has given directions for him not to stand on his own or walk. Because he does not have control over his limbs and gets very disoriented, when he tries to walk he always falls, which can be catastrophic. My mom has injuries which limit her being able to get him out of bed. He enjoys reading and puzzles. He used to enjoy cooking when he was able. On average, he sleeps until about noon, has coffee and something to eat, then listens to TV (difficult to keep his eyes open, so he frequently looks asleep when he is actually awake) until dinner. He goes to bed around 9:00 p.m. About the care needs: He would probably enjoy someone personable and friendly but not bubbly or loud. Ideally, this person would not be squeamish, because my mom could use help emptying his catheter bag. Soon, he will need help wiping after having a BM. He needs assistance with nearly all basic hygiene tasks except for washing hands. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
