About who needs care: My dear aunt and her dear daughter have structured their lives around Aunt NEVER getting "put in a home." Aunt: * cannot move herself even to adjust position * almost blind, almost deaf * can no longer use her hands to hold anything, use remote ctrl or push a button. Has to be fed and given drink. * 94 yrs old * Not dying but I'll call it end stage of life. Never going to improve Cousin is Aunt's main caregiver,. SHE will be 70 this year. Bad back, bad knees, not strong, putting off her own health care... I am 59 w multiple scleros & live in a wheelchair. I can stand for 2 min tops. We all live here in my aunt's house! TO BE CLEAR, ONLY 94 yr old aunt needs the visiting nurse! But we need her to do all the things we can't physically do for her. Aunt's had a dedicated, loving home care worker from Home Instead for about 3 yrs. H. I. worker is big and strong. And 2 months pregnant YAY after a miscarriage. She's been told not to pull belly muscles or lift more than 20 lbs. She's down to 4 hr shifts and won't be here much longer. My cousin is overwhelmed and asked me to help find someone. Ultimately it will be her who interviews and decides. About the care needs: * be physically able to move and turn Aunt on her bed by yourself * able to clean her & change her clothes by yourself if necessary * make dinner and feed her * administer Rx's * clean her bed, area, and her dishes each shift * empty her bedrm and bathrm garbage, clean around bathrm * maintain PureWick / perform necessary tasks re bowel movements Forgive me if that's all obvious. Other home aides have picked and chosen which of these things they will do. My relatives are boisterous Bronx girls! Well, my Aunt WAS a dynamo. They get along w everyone. Just don't sit on the phone when there are things to do and they'll adore you. (Where'd THAT come from?) Services needed include: companionship, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
