About who needs care: My mother had a stroke in March and lost her left visual field. She also has a problem with some dizziness, which seems to be worse in the mornings. She needs help and encouragement to do her required exercises and get more confident with walking. She currently uses a standard walker to get around the house. She is mostly able to use the bathroom alone but sometimes needs assistance changing clothes because she also has a urinary problem (pads don't always cover it). She does not have many interests, which leads to a lot of TV watching. She is normally a very social person, and before her stroke she was completely independent. I feel she could improve a lot quicker if she had some extra help from someone who is not a family member. About the care needs: I think someone who is very encouraging and patient and enjoys talking (and listening) would be a good fit. My major concern is getting her up and exercising as much as possible. She doesn't currently have any hobbies. She does occasionally enjoy doing crossword puzzles (which are difficult for her to do in her condition) and listening to music, especially Elvis. She also seems to enjoy listening to books (like Audible). Services needed include: companionship, and mobility assistance.
