About who needs care: I am only beginning to look for what options might be available for my mother and stepfather in Whiteville, NC. Their 5 offspring each live in different states. I have not yet discussed this with them. They are fairly independent but neither sees well. My mother recently lost her driving license and my stepfather has never been comfortable driving much. They are going to need help with shopping, driving to doctor appointments, cleaning, etc but not much in the way of medical assistance at this time. I have encouraged them for years to hire cleaning help but my brother and I recently did some cleaning. They are discussing moving to an assisted living facility in another state, but I don't know if they realize there are better options for staying home longer. I would also like to know that someone is looking in on them regularly as they live in a rural area and do not receive visitors very often. About the care needs: They are easy going, Mom is a retired symphony violinist, and very enthusiastic about almost anything. She has MS and issues with both mobility and memory. A staunch Republican might not work well. They raised and showed dairy goats for 30 years or more. He was a practicing pediatrician in Whiteville until 2020 and retired during COVID. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, and light housekeeping.
