About who needs care: My mother is recovering from a stroke that occurred in May. She is recovering well, however it affected her mobility on her right side. Inside the home, she is able to use her walker to get around. Outside the home, she uses her wheelchair. There is minimal activity in her right arm/hand. With her left hand, she can feed herself. She can use the bathroom on her own (occasional assistance with wiping) & light assistance with dressing. She takes medications 3x daily morning , afternoon, and evening/bedtime. We also check her blood pressure and glucose levels at these times too. My mom enjoys watching tv and napping throughout the day. We also try to include physical movement to help work out her arms and legs on her weaker right side. She gets up around 8:30-9:30am; eats breakfast and spends most of the day in the living room. She likes to ride along on errands to get out of the house. She eats lunch between 1:30 and 3:30 depending on how late breakfast is. She doesn't talk a lot but she will communicate her wants and needs and hold light conversations. We encourage her to do mental and physical rehab activities to continue positive progression of her recovery. She can be stubborn at times with the workouts. About the care needs: She is calm and quiet for the most part. She would fit well with some who is gentle, yet firm and encourages her independence. She uses a walker to get from bathroom to bedroom to living room. She doesn't go in the kitchen. Outside the house, she uses a wheelchair. With maximum assistance, she can come down the steps of the house outside . Be extra careful. She loves to watch tv. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, and mobility assistance.
