About who needs care: My father is 88 and has Parkinson's. He uses a walker. He lives by himself in an apartment 5 minutes from my house. While he's been getting by OK, the effects of the disease are really starting to progress. We worry about balance/shaky legs, memory loss, and medication confusion. About the care needs: My dad has a good sense of humor and is interesting to talk to - problem is his memory and cognitive is deteriorating, so he will have moments when he can't process a thought. And this really frustrates him. So does dropping or spilling things, which is happening more and more. Whoever it is will need a good combination of patience and knowing when to step in versus leave him be. Sometimes it's good to call him out on things and be strong with him, other times you just let him stew and work it out himself. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, and mobility assistance.
