About who needs care: Dad has dementia but actually functions pretty good (best) if he is in the familiar surroundings of his own home. He is able to get around the house and to the bathroom ok. He has recently developed some incontinence issues. Which creates biggest concern and need for help. My brother nor I am able to retire yet and though someone is always with him on weekends, we need someone to make sure his pull-up is changed in the morning when he gets dressed and in the evening before bed. Along with this we also need to make sure he gets a simple breakfast in the morning and a frozen dinner heated up in the evening. The ideal scenario (if there is one) would be to have someone visit in the morning 8 to 10, and evening 4 to 6. Im not sure if any of this is reasonable or possible, but one extenuating circumstance is his mile long driveway off of the county road. While it doesnt have huge ruts or anything, it is a little rough. Dad is currently staying with at my house 200 miles from his house. Im off work as a result of a hip replacement. When I eventually go back to work the situation changes. As I said hes good and friendly his own home, but his demeanor changes being at my house and my wife wont be able to manage that on her own. Just testing the waters to find what our options may be. About the care needs: At this point he still bathes himself when we are there and help him into the shower. We arent looking for anyone to bathe him. But they would be willing and able to help him get his pull up changed get him dressed. He still used the toilet by himself.
