About who needs care: We love our dad S dearly. Stroke survivor, started in March 2024... Now living in my sister L's finished basement, on hospice, but doing decently (physically). Non-verbal, no use of right arm, right leg impaired, lost a lot of weight, weak. Can shuffle-walk, but poor balancing. Definitely a fall risk. Needs light help transferring from bed, toilet etc. Needs help getting dressed, can't prepare food/drink, can't use remote for TV (his main activity now unfortunately). Rings a bell when he needs help. Pretty much just watches TV all day. Can't read or understand audiobooks. We try to get him dressed and into the backyard as much as possible, but the stairs are hard for him. Not much of an appetite, but still eats 3 times a day. Fine with microwaved meals, but prefers something a little nicer, as he used to own restaurants ; ) About the care needs: Kind, caring, sensitive, easeful, graceful, slow, attentive, socially/energetically attuned. Not too talkative, and slow when they do talk. Helpful, but not too helpful. Since his stroke, my dad can be quick to annoyance if there's too much activity. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
