About who needs care: My father is 77 years old with impaired memory and type II diabetes. Since my moms passing in December, he loves to watch TV and sleep so his strength and mobility are declining. Looking for someone to get him out of the house to grab a meal or go for a walk, to the store, or a swim in the bay this summer so he is not laying in bed all day. Once the outing is done, you can assist with meal prep or running errands. He is a retired medical professional who never really had hobbies. His interests are history, travel, food, and boats. I work from home, but need uninterrupted work time. There are 3 dogs in the home (2-year-old doodle, 2-year-old Frenchton, and a senior Boston terrier), so you must like dogs. About the care needs: We are seeking a mature caregiver for dad who ideally is age 40+. Someone who can read his social cues and leave him alone when he has had enough. We do not want him to feel like his privacy is being invaded or like he has to entertain his caregiver. While activity and social interaction should be encouraged, if wishes to retreat to his room, this should be allowed. If he wishes to retreat to his room, you can play doorman for the dogs, relax on the couch, make dads favorite treats, help with dinner prep, run to the store, water plants, etc. we are totally flexible with scheduling, with the only request of being available for 3-4 hours a day two non consecutive week days per week. Occasional weekend availability to pop over for meals/meds should my husband or I want to leave town would also be very much appreciated. If dad likes you, our main priority will be to accommodate your schedule. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, and mobility assistance.
