About who needs care: He has Parkinson's disease and some dementia, but still is sharp enough at times and can articulate what he wants. He uses the bathroom by himself, eats independently and gets around with a walker. He needs assistance getting up out of chairs at times, needs assistance with the shower, needs meals prepped and medication given. His daughter lives in the area. He needs some assistance dressing/undressing but manages some of it alone. He does not drive. About the care needs: We would want a woman with experience dealing with people with memory loss -- someone who understands confusion that can result from dementia and has skills and experience in maintaining a calm atmosphere when needed. He's not a big talker, and constant chatter would irritate him, but some cheerful talk and an upbeat presence would be a help. He's recently widowed. He likes to watch TV and needs help with that (has bluetooth headphones, needs help finding channels), reads, looks out at the birds, would appreciate someone reading a bit of the Bible to him briefly. His daughters are very involved and one lives locally. He sleeps a lot of the day. He appreciates people who talk to him as peer-to-peer not like he's a child. He's been in real estate and banking much of his life. A lifelong West MI resident. Might get a cat. Enjoys driving to Lake Michigan and sitting and having a coffee and a donut and looking at the lake. Frequent change is not good bc of the dementia. A calm routine is good. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
