About who needs care: I am looking for someone who can help care for my 76-year-old mom. She has COPD and is on oxygen, type 2 diabetes controlled by medication, mobility issues/uses a rollator in her house to get to the kitchen from her bedroom. I would like someone who is able to do meal prep/cooking given her preferences/nutritional needs, transportation to/from appointments, pick up prescriptions as needed, some laundry/kitchen tidying, grocery order pickup or delivery/put groceries away, put birdseed in feeders in her yard, other light miscellaneous household tasks. She spends most of her days at home. She enjoys reading, doing crossword puzzles, and watching TV. She was married almost 50 years to my dad, who died 4 years ago. About the care needs: My mom is independent minded but limited in her mobility at this time in her life. She is introverted but sociable. She and my dad raised 6 children and have 13 grandchildren, and their lives centered around our family. My parents were both born just outside of Boston, Massachusetts. We moved around a lot during my dad's career in the US Air Force, and moved to Maryland when he retired from the USAF and began his career as a contractor and later retired as a federal worker. My mom's ideal caregiver is patient when talking with her as she is hard of hearing and uses a hearing aid off and on, patient when helping her around the house, friendly, experienced at cooking and meal prep and familiar with dietary guidelines for diabetics, willing and able to do various light household tasks as needed, willing and able to assist my mom to her car by wheelchair and assist her into appointments in her wheelchair. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, and mobility assistance.
