About who needs care: Both of my parents need some help. My father has chronic leukemia (in remission), type II diabetes, and Alzheimer's. He does remember people, doesn't wander off or anything, just very poor short-term memory. He is jovial and easygoing. My mom has carcinoid cancer, low energy, sleeps a lot, some diarrhea. Dad likes to read the paper/magazines, loves to sing. Mom loves watching game shows and playing solitaire. They are in the independent living section of a large retirement community, but they don't want to move to assisted living. We need someone to monitor/guide my dad's food intake, listen for his glucose alarm, and guide him with his insulin shots (he can do the actual shots himself). Sometimes mom needs help cleaning herself up if she has an accident. Also need someone who can take them to some doctor appointments and pick up light groceries. About the care needs: Must speak English with very little accent, because they have a very hard time understanding accents. Mom is generally kind but can be short-tempered when frustrated, so ideally someone who won't take that personally. Must have lots of patience for repeating things for my dad, since he often won't remember things from even 1 minute ago. Services needed include: transportation, companionship, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
