About who needs care: Mom has diabetes and dementia (short-term memory loss). She can do most activities but needs someone to ensure she takes her medicines, gets dressed, and maintains good hygiene (remind her to put on deodorant, help with showering and ensure she's cleaning herself well after restroom use). She also needs someone to test her sugar level and provide minor meal prep (heat up food, prepare sandwiches) and minor clean up duties (clean up after eating and miscellaneous messes). Mom's biggest issue is her lack of short-term memory, so the caregiver will need to be very patient and prepared for repetitive questions and conversations. She can get spicy and stubborn at times, but she's not in any way violent. It would be optimal to have someone stop by in the mornings, and late afternoon/early evenings during the week. About the care needs: Caregiver needs to be patient, caring, understanding and have experience caring for and conversing with elderly individuals lacking short term memory. Mom likes her independence but needs reminding and help performing some of the things she used to be able to do on her own. She doesn't like to go places and mostly stays in her apartment, watching TV and doing word searches. Services needed include: feeding, and bathing / dressing.
