Kathie is a retired attorney and artist who lives with her adult daughter and caretaker, Sarah. Sarah has a professional job now, but has worked as a PCA and caregiver before. Kathie has breathing trouble and uses oxygen. Kathie also experiences some memory and cognitive challenges - but she is very sensitive about them. Kathie is well educated, humorous, and open minded. When she feels threatened she can become sarcastic - but sticking to a familiar routine and answering questions in a responsive and kind way tends to resolve Kathie's fears. For example, Sarah gives Kathie her medications each day, and Sarah has learned that the most effective approach is to prepare the medication and explain to Kathie in detail what each pill does, and how long Kathie has been taking it. The ideal caretaker will be experienced with dementia and able to provide safe and engaging care for Kathie while Sarah works outside the house two days a week. Kathie and Sarah live in a small 3rd floor apartment that is lovingly decorated and extremely tidy. Kathie doesn't care much about tidiness, but Sarah does. They have two cats and carpeted floors. The ideal caretaker would be comfortable doing light housekeeping such as sweeping floors, vacuuming, bagging trash, washing dishes, and making beds. This role is primarily about Kathie's safety and comfort.
