About who needs care: Michael is a 56-year-old, low functioning, non-verbal, total care Down's Syndrome "Child". He is a happy and healthy 'boy'. He has no manual dexterity so he cannot hold anything in his hands. He cannot stand or walk but is cooperative during transfers. We are using GCSS for is care right now but I have no backup when they call out for the day. This is making me unreliable at work. My boss is understanding and patient but he is saying more often now that the problem must be resolved. If I have no caretaker for him, I can't work and therefore I am unreliable. I do not want to lose my job. I'm looking for some specific things. I either need someone who can take and 8 to 6 shift on short notice (like that morning) or who can help get me and Mike to and from the office. My boss said I could bring him but I cannot make the transfers. We just moved here and I basically know nobody. If your service can help, please let me know. About the care needs: Transfers, acting SILLY, changing diapers. Keeping his video player working. Play with him and even if you can't understand what he says, talk to him. He is very social and sweet. He loves to eat. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
