About who needs care: Care is for my adult son. Conditions: T5-T6 paraplegic; can use upper body, but wheelchair bound, cannot transfer himself, obesity w/ electric lift and hospital bed in home as well as power wheelchair. He also has an indwelling urinary catheter that will need emptied during care. He is 4. 5 years post accident and parents have been caring for him in home. However, now parents have health issues and are needing assistance. Hobbies: sports, crime shows, nike shoes Day: 07:00am: get cleaned up, handing him items he needs (I. e. medications, toothbrush, etc), empty catheter, administer pain cream on back, get dressed, in wheelchair by 8:00 a.m. to work from home (goes into work 1/2 day a week (day of the week is flexible), back to bed between 5-6 p.m. Nightly routine of getting undressed, bed bath, skin care, flushing urinary catheter, bowel program (mini enema placed with digital stimulation to assist with bowel movements. This is done approx every other night, but occasionally will be needed nightly), stretching/passive range of motion, putting TENS unit on. Weekly shower in shower chair, roll in shower. About the care needs: Our son isn't a big talker, so would like someone nice and outgoing, but not easily offended if he does not want to talk/converse back at times. Someone able to follow cues of when he is willing to talk and other times when it is a good time to be silent. Nursing skills needed in order to properly maintain sterile catheter, changing indwelling catheter if one is clogged, maintain intact skin condition, and keep son healthy from viruses and other upper respiratory illnesses. Perhaps vital signs taken as needed if showing signs of illness (have supplies at home). Parents can be present to talk through/teach care, but need caregiver that can do all or majority of the work. Services needed include: transportation, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
