About who needs care: Mom (Jane) is 72. in 2019, she had a malignant tumor removed from her brain and has since developed epilepsy, dyslexia, cognitive delays, and communication struggles. However, she is a very independent and capable woman; she just sometimes isn't aware she is experiencing a seizure or symptoms, and she will sometimes hide them from us in hopes they will go away on their own. Mom participates in Bible studies, she love crocheting, and she enjoys watching period dramas and playing with her grand children. She is an early riser, doesn't eat much before 10 am, and gets exercise through physical therapy and going on walks with friends. About the care needs: Mom NEEDS someone who is patient and willing to take time to understand what she is saying. She has aphasia, and she will often say the opposite word or phrase to what she means, such as "daughter" in place of "mother" or "into" in place of "out of." Mom is extremely self-critical and has developed anxiety and depression as she has gotten older, and needs someone kind and persistent. Mom likes to learn about historical figures, especially the Roosevelts, English Royalty, and people from the American Civil War, so if her caregiver was a mild history buff, they would always have something to talk about. Services needed include: companionship.
