About who needs care: ALS patient with a full-time spouse caregiver who needs a second set of hands in the morning for bathing, transferring to commode, breakfast and grooming. My mom uses a power wheelchair, intermittent use of a Bi-PAP (Trilogy), hoyer/sling for transfers, commode for toileting/sink bathing, combo of Peg- tube and oral feeding. Ideally shifts would be around 7:45-8:30 and 1-2 p.m. 2-3 days per wk in-the country outside Downs, IL. About the care needs: Best fit with someone who enjoys warm conversations and getting to know each other with patience to allow her to use a speech device (unable to speak much so she uses eye gaze tablet that converts to voice). ALS makes the patient move at a slower pace and a caregiver who moves super fast can cause her some anxiety so a moderate pace of tasks is appreciated. Mom is a warm soul that everyone gravitates to. She enjoys talking about her faith and family the most. Services needed include: feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
