Companion Care Needed For My Mother In Cedar Rapids

About who needs care: My mother, Barbara, is 83 yro and currently living at home with me due to lack of care availability and lack of personal/family funds. She has history of HTN and we think she may have had a couple underlying vascular strokes, just discovered last year. July 2024 she began having short term memory issues. There have been no episodes of dangerous activity, trying to leave the house, being upset about memory loss, but she had a sharp decline in memory at that time, and now struggles to remember some events of recent months but remembers most of them. She is hard of hearing, ambulates independently with cane though her R foot has a bit of drop foot (last fall was several months ago), does all cares independently and remembers to do them. She enjoys watching daytime TV, going to thrift stores mostly to look, sitting on the porch, and listening to talk radio. I believe Barbara's ideal day would likely be waking up around 9:30-10 am, get ready for the day, eat, watch some TV or listen to radio, go to the store for an errand, come home watch tv, rest/nap, then another structed activity, dinner, then bed. She has mild cataracts and this is the reason she gives for not reading as much lately, but maybe we could get her back into some activities. About the care needs: She likes to talk about Christian religion when others are interested, but won't talk about it to the point of making someone uncomfortable if they dont share the same religion. She does not talk about it in a "smiteful God" manner, but more related to his love and support. She is more introverted but does like conversation. Again, she is HOH since July 2024, I bought her hearing aids (we have tried many types) but they don't fit well in her ear canals (very small), so we are trying to work with those. She has mild cataracts, can see overall ok, and R mild dropfoot and ambulates with a cane. Hx of 2-3 falls total that I know of, a little cautious when she walks, but safe. Services needed include: transportation, and companionship.
