About who needs care: I look after two disabled siblings: a brother (65) and a sister (70). They live together in their own home. They both could use some companionship. My brother suffered a traumatic brain injury in 1996. He is highly functioning for a brain injured person, but suffers chronic head pain and is somewhat OCD. My sister has some chronic health issues, including diabetes, joint pain and gastrointestinal issues. She is also very disorganized. Both are on pain meds, but neither one can trusted to manage their pain meds. As for me, I someone to take some of their care "off my plate." And I'd like to be able to get away from time to time. We have a trip planned for early October, but need someone to help on an ongoing basis. About the care needs: Someone who is positive, but can also help keep my siblings on track and moving in a positive direction. Empathetic, but also strong. Both of my siblings suffer from isolation. My sister needs help with organization. My brother's brain injury resulted in diminished executive function, so he needs a gentle push to get things done (e. g., take a shower). Both are movie buffs. She loves her dog and gardening. He has a deep knowledge of history. He loves old cars. More than anything he needs companionship and help restoring his self esteem. Services needed include: transportation, companionship, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
