About who needs care: My grandpa, Carl, is a single white male living alone in Punta Gorda, Florida. Carl also goes by the nickname Chip. He worked as an engineer for Cummins, Inc. and retired nearly 20 years ago. Chip is a father of four, but unfortunately none of his children live nearby or visit frequently. Carl moved to Florida from Indiana after his first wife passed away of cancer. Around that same time, he reunited with his high school sweetheart, DeeDee, with whom he had his first child with prior to his first marriage. Since then, he and DeeDee have been living in Burnt Store. Now, DeeDee is moving to Chicago to a memory care/ assisted living facility near her other children. My grandpa is very heartbroken about this. Anyway, Carl has had many medical complicated over the last 20+ years, including several heart attacks which required surgery, kidney problems, low blood pressure, and more. Although he is still very sharp mentally, managing his household (cooking, cleaning, etc.) can be tough for him. Additionally, his robust medication regime may improve with in-home professional oversight. Carl has been very independent his entire life. As an outdoorsman, he has taken pride in his independence. Patience and compromise are not his strengths. He does not want someone at his home for any significant periods of times, but rather would prefer frequent check-in visits. About the care needs: Great morals, kind nature, and respectful of boundaries. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, and light housekeeping.
