About who needs care: My mother has significant back and joint problems, and is beginning to experience symptoms of dementia. She lives with my 87-year-old father. He has done his best, but I really think he needs some help, and Im too far away for regular visits. They mostly sit in their living room, reading the paper or watching Fox News. My mother likes to take short walks, but should have someone with her. Im not sure how much help they should have. Perhaps overnight. But, I think a few afternoons a week would be a great start. About the care needs: My mother is beginning to suffer from paranoia and can be stubborn. Dementia is changing her personality, unfortunately. A firm but patient caregiver with a sense of humor would be ideal.
