About who needs care: My mom has dementia. She is self-sufficient for personal care and hygiene. She is a social butterfly and loves to chat. She understands jokes and sarcasm, knows her family and friends, but she couldn't tell you what she had for breakfast or where to find the kitchen sink. She enjoys taking walks, chatting, visiting area stores, and easy crafts. She wants to be busy and frequently asks my dad what is "next on the schedule" - partly because she doesn't remember if they just finished an event. We are looking for a companion to hang out with her and give my dad a break for about 4 hours twice a week. About the care needs: My mom gets along easily with most people. A socially engaging personality would be best for her. Someone who has experience with dementia patients or working with younger children would be appreciated (some of her behaviors need redirection similar to those of a younger child - nothing violent or disturbing. Just redirecting to the task at hand when she forgets what she is doing). We are looking for someone who would treat her with respect and dignity and be interested in her as a person with a full life's story. Services needed include: companionship.
