About who needs care: My mom, 85, has fronotemporal lobe dementia and needs daytime care, usually in the afternoon or evening. She requires assistance with bathing, toileting, medication management, dressing, and grooming. My mom is a vibrant woman, a former dancer, professor, and visual artist. She loves to create art, to show off her work, and go for walks in safe natural areas. An ideal day for my mom would consist of breakfast and a latte, followed by some dancing or other exercise like a walk, an afternoon nap, and perhaps an activity like scratchboard or playing with Play-doh. My mom sundowns, and her meed tends to worsen as the night wears on. My dad, 88, is fully competent and physically fit, He needs alone time to work in his garden, read, and listen to music - thus, the ideal caregiver will be conscious of his need for rest and time to himself. Because my father cooks, the need for meals is much less than his need for respite. About the care needs: The idea caregiver would be compassionate and creative, able to engage my mom in simple activities like scratchboard, drawing, playing with clay and looking at family photos. My mom's ideal caregiver will have the ability to gently coax my mom into the bath, grooming, and dressing, brushing her teeth, and taking medication. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
