About who needs care: I am 73 years old and live with my son and daughter-in-law. I have been diagnosed with Lyme Disease which apparently caused a neurological condition which affects my ability to tolerate light visually and also impairs vision. I live in the basement in a very dim room. I am also frail and have neuropathy in my feet. I used to hike, bike, birdwatch, read and travel. Now I listen to books and podcasts, walk on a treadmill, and watch movies and TV shows via streaming . About the care needs: Personable, tolerant, friendly, open minded. Willingness to deal with some uncertainty about exact schedule each week usually worked out with my daughter in law. She typically works weekends from 2-10:30 p.m. as a senior lab tech at a local hospital but may work additional shifts as well. My son works a 48-hour shift with 4 days off and is a firefighter/paramedic. They prepare and bring meals to me in my basement bedroom. These are the main tasks an additional caregiver will be asked to do along with occasional other household chores. Number of hours/week will vary between 4 and 10 typically Services needed include: meal preparation, light housekeeping, and companionship.
