About who needs care: My father, who turns 90 on April 6th, is doing well for his age. However, he is increasingly becoming a fall risk. He needs help prepping food, although he is still bathing on his own. His cognitive abilities are definitely decreasing, so while he is still driving, I worry. I am currently employed full-time, although with recent layoffs and reductions, that could change to semi-retirement next fall. I am a teacher. Summers are different than the rest of the year. So, the days and times are currently somewhat in flux. This person, as well, could be at my house and caring for my father while I take vacations. I understand that they would need time off as well, and I would probably keep my agency which currently comes once a week for four hours on Friday. Anyways, that is the very brief synopsis. About the care needs: My Dad is a very traditional male of his generation and a Korean war vet. He is also an intellectual and an artist. He used to teach film history at college level. History, politics, film: he loves to chat with people. He is also dealing with a lot as he ages and loses his strength and mobility. He is proud. His wife has severe dementia and is in a home - this is a sadness he carries. To be around him requires some patience! He eats up Fox News (butcha can always change the channel!). He coughs and sputters a bit and kind of expects women to cater to him. Old fashioned. Just sayin'. So somebody who is alright with a man of his era.
