About who needs care: My 43-year-old stepson A is diagnosed with a mental illness (bipolar depressive) that prevents him from having a normal life. He is unemployed and living by himself in my second home in Sacramento. He needs help with meal prep, grocery shopping, and house cleaning. He is otherwise capable of other functions like personal care. He has been approved to receive in-home support services through the Sacramento County IHSS program which will pay for services to an approved provider. I have not received their approved provider list yet and they recommend that I try contacting agencies myself in the meantime through the internet or by calling. Do you have a list of approved providers through the Sacramento County IHSS program? Thanks. About the care needs: Definitely a caregiver who is approved through the Sacramento County IHSS program which will pay for their services. They should be trained to be around people with mental illnesses like bipolar or schizophrenia. My son in not dangerous and has never indicated that he wants to harm himself or others. He has trouble focusing on basic tasks like shopping, cooking, and cleaning. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, and light housekeeping.
