About who needs care: Underlying Conditions: I have lymphedema and wear compression wraps from my knees to my feet, which is why I need assistance. Ideal Day: Can be somewhat flexible with the days and time, as long as it's two days during the week, and we finished by 1 PM (work from home starting at 1.). My current caregiver comes from 10 AM-12:45 PM on Tues and 11 AM-12:30 PM on Thurs. Structure of Day: I am very organized and attempt to be very efficient with the caregiver's time. Tuesdays: Caregiver: -Fills small tubs with vinegar for me to soak my feet for an hour. -While I'm soaking, they take care of emptying and refilling ice trays, checking the mail, and taking compost, recycling, and trash (which I have organized) to the outside dumpsters. -Warms up a breakfast sandwich in the microwave and occasionally, lunch. -Puts the shower chair and secure mat in the tub. (I can do all of the rest of my bathroom ADLs myself.) -Shakes out bedroom and bathroom rugs. -Sweeps the floors: bedroom, kitchen, hallway, and bathroom. -Occasionally, assists with grocery store or other delivery; helps the delivery person and puts the items away. -Puts on my wraps. Thursdays: Shortened version of Tuesday. Caregiver: -Ice -Warms up breakfast/lunch. -Mail -Rugs -Sweeps -Hand washes my socks with grippers (I have tubs and gloves). -Wraps Misc. Errands: -Medical appts -Pick up meds at the KP pharmacy (near my house) -Library: Pick up and drop off books -Laundry: Drop off my dirty and pick up my clean (use a service) -Misc. errands (Small Target or other pick ups) -Post office: Mailing packages Hobbies/Interests: SPORTS and am a big reader. Am a foodie, like movies, esp. documentaries. About the care needs: Good Fit: Punctual, reliable, positive person, someone who understands that this is a priority. Without their help, I could very easily end up in the hospital. Someone who is nice, helpful, and friendly. Someone I would like spending time with and chatting with. We don't need to be best friends, but I have built good relationships with past caregivers. A sense of humor is a big plus! Specialized Skills: Need to be coachable and teachable. Do not need any sort of specialized medical training. Hobbies/Interests: If they like sports, that's a bonus. It doesn't really matter, but I would NOT be comfortable with someone who is super religious (I grew up in the Bible Belt!) or aligned with the MAGA philosophy politically. Bonus: Would be best if this person lives in/spends time in Alameda or Oakland. Many of my errands are Alameda-based, and most of my medical appointments are at the KP facilities near my house in Oakland. Have had good luck with responsible college students who are looking for flexibility and a living wage. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, and light housekeeping.
