About who needs care: My dad has heart issues, A-fibrillation as well as carcinoma (cancer) that has spread from his eye, onto the top of his head, and now into his lymph nodes. It is treatable for now but the radiation is aggressive. On top of that, he has severe mobility issues due to an undiagnosed neurological disorder. He is declining quickly and suffering from severe depression, as a result. Until recently, his days were structured with a passion for his job and physical health. Now he is unemployed and spends most of his time watching TV and hanging out with his dog. He also owns a horse called Rascal that he would very much like to see but has trouble getting in and out of the car to go to the equestrian center. Ideally, he could find a way there as well as have someone who helps him and my mom get him to the doctor and ensure there are no falls or incidents at home. My mom is younger than him and self-employed so she is struggling to keep up. They also like to hold onto material things so their house is quite full. She might need help organizing or even ridding the house of certain items that she is ready to let go of. I am actively supporting those efforts and will be an instrumental resource, across the board. About the care needs: My dad is a quiet type. He doesn't require a lot of conversation and is self-conscious about his health issues. He really needs someone who is calm and cool but definitely not condescending about their care methods or with suggestions. He will listen to the right person but certainly has a lot of generational pride. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
