About who needs care: 37-year-old male with end stage brain cancer. Primary care giver is his father, age 75. Patient currently receives daily personal care for 1 hour and bi-weekly RN check-in through a hospice provider. The primary caregiver (father) needs support with meal prep 2-3 times per day for patient (a basic low fat diet); feeding patient meals and general light housekeeping (i. e., loading dishwasher; keeping kitchen clean, etc.) Time in between meals would be spent sitting with patient (who usually is sleeping or quiet.) The hours support is needed would be 11:30 a.m. - 7:30 p.m. Caregiver should have some experience with patients with terminal illness and/or patients with dementia or aphasia. About the care needs: Personality - Someone kind and mild-mannered would be preferred. Experience with dementia or patients who have aphasia is necessary. Also someone who has experience with patients with terminal illness or patients who are in home hospice. Caregiver should be comfortable being in a quiet home for extended periods (without excessive noise, tv or radio) as the patient is sometimes sensitive to excessive talking or noise, particularly when they are napping. Caregiver would be free to pass the time reading or engaging in other quiet hobbies/activities, etc. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, and light housekeeping.
