About who needs care: My mother has expressive aphasia, which is the loss of speech/language. She can understand others, but her own speech is highly impaired. After you get to know her it's easier to decipher what she is talking about. My mother has a brain lesion that caused the aphasia, and it also affected her brain in other ways. She really struggles with technology; she can make phone calls and video calls, but she struggles with apps, typing, logging into streaming services on the tv, anything on the computer, etc. Therefore I am looking for someone who is computer literate and feels confident with personal technology use. My mother's hobbies include walking (she likes to walk for miles on the bike path or similar flat area), visiting with friends, traveling, and taking care of her 2 dogs. Right now she is very focused on her speech therapy, in order to improve her language skills. My mother also struggles with depression and anxiety, which are made worse when she is alone. Having another person there helps motivate her and keep her on track. Ideally the care person would come around 10am, and help her with her daily tasks/activities and keeping her schedule.... she is good at remembering her appointments, but often needs help either getting there (driving) or logging in apps. The care person could leave at some point in the afternoon. About the care needs: A good fit is someone who is warm, friendly and PATIENT. It is also important that this person not "baby" my mother or treat her like an infirm person, because she will find that insulting. This person should be organized, because my mom also has ADHD and has a hard time staying organized. This person should be fluent in personal technology use as well. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, and light housekeeping.
