About who needs care: My mom is 84 years old. She has mild Alzheimer's. Her long term memory is fantastic, but she cannot remember anything new. She also has severe neuropathy in her lower legs and feet which make her very stiff especially upon waking. For this reason, we take things very slow with her in the morning. She has a condition call Cauda Equina that takes away feelings in the saddle area, so she self catheterizes about every 4 hours, and I take her for a colonic every 3-4 weeks. She takes medicine and supplements 3 times a day. About 2 weeks ago, she fell and fractured the fibula in her lower left leg so we currently use a wheelchair to transport her. She has PT twice a week and is starting occupational therapy today. She needs meals prepared for her. My mom enjoys watching TV, interacting with our dogs, watching videos on her phone, sitting on the back patio when the weather is nice, reading and spending time with family. An ideal day would be helping mom out of bed and to the restroom when she's ready, Help mom to the recliner in her bedroom and put her leg massagers on her for 20 minutes while she has tea and watches TV. Prepare breakfast for her. After breakfast, assist mom to take morning medications and supplements. Then, help mom dress and get ready for the day, Move out to the TV room. Each day might be a little different depending on appointments, but generally, we want mom to do the following each day for a little while. Spend some time in the natural sunlight, interact with the dogs, play a game that helps exercise her brain, PT exercises 2x's a day. When her injury has healed, a little walking each day. Prepare lunch. Remind mom 2-4 times an hour to take a drink from her water bottle to help keep her hydrated. She will want to watch TV a couple hours each day. PT will come twice a week. Sometimes, mom doses off in the afternoon and takes a little cat nap in her chair. During the day, if mom is watching TV or taking a nap, I would like the caregiver to do mom's laundry, do some light housekeeping like vacuum, wash dishes, mop the areas where mom spends her time. Make sure mom's bathroom supplies are replenished. We would like mom to have a shower at least once a week and then a sponge bath 1-2 other days. Help mom style her hair with the blow dryer. Prepare healthy snacks for mom as needed in between meals. Some alternate activities mom can do include playing brain games on her cell phone for 15 minutes or reading a book aloud to you for 15 minutes. I will be home no later than 6:15 pm each day and earlier on some days. About the care needs: Personality: We are looking for someone who is energetic, kind, patient, resourceful and especially attentive. Take care of her, but also be her companion. Skills: Cook meals for mom, prepare meals if needed, Assist with all daily activities including showering, sponge bath, dressing, exercising, daily activities, answering questions, transporting from room to room. Hobbies/Interests: must like dogs (I have 2 labs and mom has a rat terrier). Our dogs are a huge part of our family and mom likes to be around them. Must be okay with cooking, some housekeeping (dishes, laundry, cleaning mom's areas). Be a companion for mom, have conversations with her about her life, her likes and dislikes, current news, etc. Mom likes to listen to her old 45 records so be willing to do that with her as well. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
