About who needs care: I am just looking. My grandmother has dementia and needs full-time care. She is physically able to walk around and able to get in and out of bed. She needs help toileting, changing her depends and wiping. She speaks, but it's limited and often won't be able to tell you exactly what she wants. She needs meals cooked for her, companionship and someone to take her on walks. She's very sweet 80% of the time and the other 20% she can be combative. I've never been harmed by her combativeness, but sometimes I'll grab her arms to prevent her from hitting me. When told in a stern voice to settle down, she'll often behave. She does however cry loudly at times. Sometimes it's attention seeking, and sometimes it's genuine distress. About the care needs: Anyone who loves young children would be a good fit because her mindset is now like a young child. Anyone who enjoys nature, going on slow walks, and watching TV would be a good fit. She tends to like high energy people. She likes to dance and be silly. She loves loves seeing young children and animals on outings. Like any caregiver, patience is required. Many times she'll get upset and it can be as simple as not liking the length of her pants or not wanting a shower. She will sometimes act out, such as wailing or eating aggressively, but I've found that ignoring it or physically turning the other way will get her to stop. She may need someone to prevent her from becoming combative, so if you are strong, you're probably a good fit. Sometimes I've had to hold her arms if I think she's going to hit. She's strong, but she's never actually brought me physical harm during her outbursts. She likes simple meals that she can eat without her dentures, so no need to be a chef. :) Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
