Kaya is a rescue Boerboel. So she's large and a little "peculiar". At first she may not want to go on walks, she's very skittish for a Boerboel. So in the beginning, I may just have the dog walker take her out back and hang with her for 20-30 min. Once the trust is established, kaya is very well behaved on a leash (though she may just put the breaks on and demand to go back)... it's usually fear driven (she hears something and panics). An experienced dog person can easily work through it with her. If not, not a big deal, she'll walk you home. Kaya trusts women more than men, but men can win her over too. It's all about the handler. Calm, assertive energy is what she responds to best. Oh... I keep her away from other dogs and children, only because she's so fearful and I don't want to take any risks. On walks, she ignores both.
