I have 1 old dog, and 5 cats. The first cleaning needs to be a thorough cleaning. From upstairs to downstairs, top to bottom of every room including: light fixtures, blinds, baseboards, moldings, nic-nacs, furniture, behind and under furniture, counters and stove tops. Basically an extreme cleaning. After that would every other week upkeep cleaning.
